I read an article last year (2016) August month regarding “Google warns it will crack down on “intrusive interstitials” in January” https://goo.gl/bq7oqU.

But, Webmaster Trends Analyst John Mueller officially announced, it is released on Jan 11, 2017!

Hope all the webmasters should consider about the “pop up ads” especially eCommerce sites.

@kokul, It’s good! As you know Matt Cutts isn’t anymore from Google and he is now with USDS . Now, all the statements are coming from John Mueller and he never said anything clear instead giving some hints for the readers.

Regarding, intrusive interstitial update it’s all about mobile and it’s functionalities! As long as your site is compliance with Mobile ( Obviously AMP ) without any popups or Too much adds or not heavy images then you are fine.
